Ing. Tereza De Castro, Ph.D.
Dr De Castro is an assistant professor of economics in the Department of International Economic Relations, Faculty of International Relations, at the Prague University of Economics and Business. She specializes in international trade, the world economy, and developing studies. Territorially she focuses mainly on emerging markets (BRICS, etc.) and countries in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). In her research, she looks at the analysis of trade relations, the global value chains and the growing middle class in the above-mentioned regions. Dr De Castro has experience from study/research stays in the USA, Hong Kong, China (Beijing), Germany, and a range of international economic conferences. She is a founding member of the Center for Asian Studies (CAS) at the Faculty of International Relations.
Doc. Jeremy Alan Garlick, M.A., Ph.D.
Jeremy Garlick is the director of the Jan Masaryk Centre of International Studies, a research centre of the Faculty of International Relations. In May 2021, he was appointed Associate Professor for International Political Relations. He specialises in China’s international relations and international relations theory. He has published impact articles on a diverse range of topics, including China’s economic diplomacy in Central and Eastern Europe, and China’s regionalising foreign policy in South Asia, Central Asia, and the Middle East. His book, The Impact of China’s Belt and Road Initiative: From Asia to Europe, was published by Routledge in 2019. Dr Garlick has lectured for three decades at institutes of higher education in Asia and Europe.
Kyoko Ichikawa, Ph.D.
Dr Ichikawa is a visiting fellow in the Department of International Economic Relations since September 2021. In 2017, she defended her dissertation on Empirical Analysis of Educational Mismatch and Employment of Female University Graduates – through a comparison between Japan and the Netherlands. She has a long career as an economist focusing on female labour and the declining birth rate in the Cabinet Office, Government of Japan, which is in charge of gender issues. Her research focuses on Education Economics, Labour Economics, and Applied Microeconomics.
Mgr. Jakub Otčenášek, Ph.D.
Since 2009, he has been working at the Department of English language at the Faculty of International Relations at the University of Economics. He teaches courses on the Chinese language, history, culture and thought. In 2019, he earned his the PhD degree in religious studies at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University. He spent one year in the PRC and one year in Taiwan during his studies.
Ing. Dominik Proch
Dominik Proch is a graduate of the Faculty of International Relations (Prague University of Economics and Business) in International Trade and Chinese Studies as a minor field of study. He has been an assistant professor at the Department of International Economic Relations (Faculty of International Relations) since 2022. His research is focused on the mutual interaction of the state and the market in the macro/economic development process, especially with regard to Asian economies. The topic of his dissertation is the state’s role in the structural transformation of India’s and China’s economic systems. Besides his academic path, he worked in the aviation industry on projects between European and Asian countries.
Ing. Mgr. Pavel Přikryl, Ph.D.
Dr Přikryl works as an Assistant Professor at the Department of International Studies and Diplomacy, Faculty of International Relations (FIR) at the University of Economics in Prague. In February 2018, he defended his dissertation thesis Failed states as a factor of international relations and focuses further in his research on weak statehood, especially in Asia and Africa. He teaches Asia in international relations and Global South in international relations in English and the Political problems of developing countries in Czech. Since 2020, he is a member of the Academic Senate of FIR and since 2021, he represents FIR in the Council of Universities, within which he further participates in the Committee for Education.
Doc. Ing. Zuzana Stuchlíková, Ph.D.
Ms Stuchlikova has been working at the Department of International Economic Relations, at the Faculty of International Relations (Prague University of Economics and Business) since 2004. She has been a supervisor of the minor program Chinese Studies and the head of the Center for Asian Studies at the Faculty of International Relations. Ms Stuchlikova got her PhD degree in 2008, and she was appointed ” a docent” (associate professor) in 2015. Ms Stuchlikova has been specializing in the Chinese and Japanese economies´ developments, global economic trends (demographic ageing, income inequalities, middle-class developments and innovations), and international trade. She used to be an editor-in-chief of the scientific journal “Soucasna Evropa” (Current Europe). She has experience from research stays in China and Japan.
Ing. Jitka Volfová, Ph.D.
Dr Volfová has been working at the Faculty of International Relations since 2009, currently at the Department of International Business (KMP). She is a guarantor of courses on doing business with Chinese, i.e. Trade and Entrepreneurship in China is a compulsory course for the minor specialization – Chinese Studies. In 2010, after returning from her two-year stay in China, she was awarded her PhD degree in International Economic Relations while defending her dissertation thesis on International Management focusing on Chinese Business Negotiation (cultural differences between Czechs and Chinese that can cause misunderstandings within international business cooperation). She further deepened her professional experience e.g. by taking part in the Czech participation in EXPO 2010 in Shanghai. She focuses on International Management, Cross-cultural Communication, Managerial Skills, and Business Negotiation as a teacher, lecturer in practice and certified coach. She is one of the founding teachers of the minor specialization in Chinese Studies and one of the founding members of the Center for Asian Studies. She is also active as a researcher and visiting professor abroad (Ireland, UK, China, USA, Russia, Austria).

Ing. Aneta Hlavsová, Ph.D., BA
Aneta studied Ph.D. programme at the Jan Masaryk Center for International Studies at the Prague University of Economics and Business (VŠE), and her long-term research interests include the complexities of American foreign policy as well as the Middle Eastern countries. She finished her bachelor’s studies at the Empire State College and then continued onto an international master´s of International Diplomatic Studies at VŠE. Along with her studies she also participates as a teacher in the department´s courses, namely the Great Powers in International Relations and Ethnic Conflicts) and focuses her thesis on Barack Obama´s foreign policy. She published several articles under the internal grant (headed by Dr. Havlová) which researched the democratization of Middle Eastern countries.
