Chinese Academy of Social Sciences at the Faculty of International Relations
On 30th August 2017, the Faculty of International Relations welcomed a delegation from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), which is the premier academic organization and research center of the People’s Republic of China in the fields of philosophy and social sciences.
The CASS was established in May 1977, replacing the Department of Philosophy and Social Sciences of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The CASS is now made up of 31 research institutes and 45 research centers, which carry out various research activities. At present, the CASS has more than 3,200 professional researchers.
The Faculty of International Relations (FIR) hosted the delegation from the Institute of World Economics and Politics, IWEP, led by Mr. Zhang, the Director of Department of International Investment at IWEP, CASS. This Institute and FIR discussed possible cooperation, focussing mainly on the export of the Chinese Foreign Investment to Central and Eastern Europe (CEE countries), with the main interest for investment environment in the Czech Republic. The meeting was attended by the representatives of the Center for Asian Studies and the Vice-Dean for Research and Doctoral Studies at the Faculty of International Relations, Mrs. Doc. Ing. Mgr. Radka Drulakova, Ph.D.
Today’s China is not merely the main importer of the FDI, but it also exports FDI to the world in large numbers. The amount of imported FDI is even lower than the exports. Investment flows have been changing; their structure and focus too. By now, the total scope of the Chinese investments in the Czech Republic is quite low, despite the broadening and deepening economic cooperation, for example within the project „New Silk Road“ (also known as One Belt One Road Initiative).
